Inspired by the 2018 exhibition Zeitgeist: The Art Scene of Teenage Basquiat, this bundle explores the creative community that surrounded Jean-Michel Basquiat in his teens, before he became famous - the artists and scene of gritty, pre-AIDS, downtown New York—before the rise of 80s art and real estate juggernauts that re-shaped the neighborhood. The Zeitgeist catalog features Basquiat’s early works alongside more than 35 of his peers, including Brett De Palma, Tessa Hughes-Freeland, and Jane Dickson, whose exhibition catalogs are included here.
This bundle also includes the biographic novel Hero in Art—The Vanished Traces of Richard Hambleton by Istvan Kantor (AKA Monty Cantsin, the founder of Neoism and long friend of Richard Hambleton). This book, published by Howl! Happening and Autonomedia earlier this year, tells the story of the enigmatic artist who frustrated and inspired those around him through personal experiences and recollections from Michael O’Connell, Eileen Doster, Franc Palaia, Howie Seligman, Hank O’Neil, Oren Jacoby, Clayton Patterson, Julius Klein, Linus Coraggio, Tom Warren, Blake Sandberg, Hugo Ariz, David Zack, Pat Ivers, Rick Librizzi, Nemo Librizzi, and Mike Malbon, as well romantic partners and other friends of Hambleton.
Offered as a limited release - only 20 sets left.
